How to Play Last Card!

Match the colour or the number, and be first to play your last card.

👥 2–6 players · Easy difficulty

Learn Last Card! for 2–6 players: match the colour in play or the number, use Skip, Reverse and Draw cards, and know when a Wild Draw Four is allowed. Try a worked example, then play in your browser.

Which cards can you play on the coral 7?

coral 7coral 3teal 7Wildviolet Draw Twoviolet 9

The top card is the coral 7, so coral is in play. Your hand is coral 3, teal 7, Wild, violet Draw Two and violet 9. The coral 3 plays because it matches the colour, the teal 7 because it matches the number, and the Wild plays on anything and names a colour. The violet Draw Two and the violet 9 do not play: neither the colour nor the number matches.

Wild Draw FourOnly if you hold no coral

A Wild Draw Four may only be played when you hold no card of the colour in play — here, no coral.

🎯 Objective

Be the first to play your last card each round and score the cards left in the other hands. The first player whose total reaches the target score — 500 by default — wins the match.

🃏 Last Card! Setup & Rules

  1. Last Card! uses its own deck in four colours — teal, coral, amber and violet. Each colour has the numbers 2–10 plus Skip, Reverse and Draw Two; a 54-card deck also holds 4 Wilds and 2 Wild Draw Fours. With 5 or 6 players the app shuffles two decks together (108 cards, 8 Wilds and 4 Wild Draw Fours).
  2. Everyone gets 7 cards. The first card of the draw pile is turned up to start the discard pile; a Wild turned up is buried and the next card turned.
  3. The player after the dealer goes first, and the deal moves one seat clockwise each round.

▶ How to Play Last Card!

  1. On your turn, play one card that matches the colour in play or the number or symbol of the top card — or play a Wild at any time.
  2. A Wild Draw Four may only be played when you hold no card of the colour in play.
  3. Or draw one card from the pile. If it can be played you may play it at once or keep it and pass; if not, your turn ends. You may draw even when you could have played.
  4. Skip: the next player loses their turn. Reverse: play turns round — with two players it works like a Skip, so you play again. Draw Two: the next player draws two and loses their turn.
  5. Wild: name the colour. Wild Draw Four: name the colour, and the next player draws four and loses their turn. There is no challenge rule, and Draw cards do not stack.
  6. When the draw pile runs out, the discard pile except its top card is shuffled into a new draw pile. When you are down to one card the app calls "Last card!" for you — there is no penalty for forgetting.

Filmed with an ordinary pack of cards. Last Card! has its own four-colour deck in the app, but the idea is the same: match the top card, use the action cards, and be first to play your last card.

📖 Detailed Guide

Setting up your table

  • From the game menu choose Last Card!, then pick 2–6 seats and fill the empty ones with AI players.
  • Set the target score: 500 by default, anywhere from 100 to 1000 in steps of 100. The match ends as soon as a player's total reaches it.
  • Everyone is dealt 7 cards. Up to 4 players share one 54-card deck; with 5 or 6 players the app shuffles two decks together (108 cards).
  • The top card of the draw pile is turned up to open the discard pile; a Wild turned up is buried and the next card turned. If the opening card is a Skip, the first player is skipped; a Reverse sends play the other way and the dealer plays first; a Draw Two makes the first player draw two and skips them.
  • The player after the dealer goes first, and the deal moves one seat clockwise each round.

Reading the cards

  • The deck comes in four colours — teal, coral, amber and violet — and every colour runs from 2 to 10.
  • Skip, Reverse and Draw Two are the action cards, and every colour has them. They match by colour or by symbol, just as a number card matches by colour or by number.
  • Each deck holds 4 Wilds and 2 Wild Draw Fours. They have no colour of their own: they play on anything (with one restriction on the Wild Draw Four), and you name the colour that follows.
  • Only the colour in play and the number or symbol of the top card matter. After a Wild, the colour in play is the one that was named.

Your turn: play or draw

  • Play one card that matches the colour in play or the number or symbol of the top card, or play a Wild at any time.
  • A Wild Draw Four may only be played when you hold no card of the colour in play.
  • Or draw one card from the pile. If it can be played you may play it at once or keep it and pass; if not, your turn ends. You may draw even when you could have played.
  • When the draw pile runs out, the discard pile except its top card is shuffled into a new draw pile.

Action cards and Wilds

  • Skip: the next player loses their turn.
  • Reverse: play turns round. With two players it works like a Skip — you play again.
  • Draw Two: the next player draws two cards and loses their turn.
  • Wild: you name the colour. Wild Draw Four: you name the colour and the next player draws four and loses their turn.
  • There is no challenge rule and no stacking: the player hit by a Draw Two or Wild Draw Four draws and is skipped, and cannot pass the penalty on with a Draw card of their own.

Last card, going out and scoring

  • When you are down to one card the app calls "Last card!" for you — there is no penalty for forgetting to call it.
  • The first player to play their last card wins the round and scores every point left in the other hands: number cards face value, Skip, Reverse and Draw Two 20 each, Wild and Wild Draw Four 50 each.
  • If the last card played is a Draw Two or Wild Draw Four, the next player still draws those cards, and they count towards the winner's score.
  • The match ends when a total reaches the target score.
  • If nobody can play and nothing is left to draw, a full table of passes ends the round and the lowest hand scores the others' points.

📊 Last Card! Scoring

The first player to play their last card wins the round and scores every point left in the other hands: number cards face value (2–10), Skip, Reverse and Draw Two 20 each, Wild and Wild Draw Four 50 each. If the last card played is a Draw Two or Wild Draw Four, the next player still draws those cards and they count. The match ends when a total reaches the target score — 500 by default, adjustable from 100 to 1000 in steps of 100 on the setup page.
