Learn Addiction, also called Gaps or Montana: four rows of 13, the aces out, filling each gap with the next card in suit and redealing when stuck. Try an example, then play in your browser.

Which card fills the gap?

2♦3♦4♦K♠

A row starts 2♦ 3♦ 4♦ and then a gap: only the 5♦ can fill it, and the place the 5♦ came from becomes the new gap. Another row has a gap straight after the K♠: nothing can ever go there, so that gap is dead until you redeal.

4♦The 5♦ only
K♠Nothing: the gap is dead
Another gapNothing
The left edge of a rowAny 2

Each move leaves a new gap where the card came from. When no card can move, a redeal keeps each row's run from a 2 and shuffles the rest; stuck with no redeal left, the game is over.

🎯 Objective

Arrange the cards so each of the four rows runs 2 to king of one suit, in order from the left. Your score is the cards in their final place; all 48 wins.

🃏 Addiction Solitaire Setup & Rules

  1. One 52-card deck, dealt face up in four rows of thirteen.
  2. The four aces are taken out of the game, leaving four gaps. They do not come back, not even for a redeal.
  3. Choose the redeals at setup: 3 by default, from 0 to 3.

▶ How to Play Addiction Solitaire

  1. A gap takes the card of the same suit one rank higher than the card on its left: after the 7♥ only the 8♥ can go. The card's old place becomes the new gap.
  2. A gap in the first column takes any 2.
  3. Nothing can go in a gap to the right of a king, or to the right of another gap.
  4. Tap a card to move it into the gap it fits, or tap a gap to fill it with the card that fits. A 2 that fits two rows waits for you to tap the gap you want.
  5. When no card can move, redeal: each row keeps its run from the left, a 2 in the first column and its suit in order. Every other card is shuffled and dealt back, with a gap straight after each row's run.
  6. Stuck with no redeal left, the game is over. Auto plays a move for you and redeals when you are stuck; Give up ends the game where it stands.

📖 Detailed Guide

Setting up your table

  • From the game menu choose Addiction. It is a patience for one, so there are no other seats to fill.
  • Set the redeals: 3 by default, from 0 to 3. A redeal is allowed only when no card can move.
  • The app deals the whole 52-card deck face up in four rows of thirteen.
  • Then the four aces are taken out of the game, leaving four gaps where they lay.

Filling the gaps

  • A gap takes the card of the same suit one rank higher than the card on its left: after the 5♠ only the 6♠ can go.
  • A gap in the first column takes any 2, and you choose which one.
  • A gap to the right of a king, or to the right of another gap, takes nothing.
  • The card you move leaves a new gap behind, so every move sets up the next.

Redealing

  • When no card can move, tap Redeal; the app never redeals for you.
  • Each row keeps its run from the left: a 2 in the first column and then its suit in order.
  • Every other card is shuffled and dealt back, with a gap straight after each row's run, so every row has a gap where it can grow.
  • A row with no run yet gets its gap in the first column, ready for a 2.

Winning and scoring

  • You win when all four rows run 2 to king in suit, with the gaps at the right end.
  • Stuck with no redeal left, the game is over.
  • Your score is the cards in their final place, out of 48.
  • Auto plays the move the app would choose and redeals when you are stuck. Give up ends the game where it stands.

📊 Addiction Solitaire Scoring

Your score is the number of cards in their final place: each row's run from a 2 in the first column, in suit and in order. All 48 wins. The app allows 3 redeals by default (0 to 3 at setup), not the traditional two, and its redeal leaves each row's gap straight after its run instead of shuffling the aces back in.
