👥 4 players (2 teams) · Dificuldade média

🎯 Objetivo

Win the match by securing the "court" (7 tricks in the first half) and defending it in the second half, or by winning all 13 tricks.

🃏 Preparação e regras de Court Piece

  1. Use a standard 52-card deck. Deal 5 cards to each player (3+2 or 2+3 in packets).
  2. The player left of the dealer (called the "trump caller") looks at their 5 cards and names the trump suit.
  3. Remaining cards are dealt (4 each), completing 13-card hands.

▶ Como jogar Court Piece

  1. Trump caller leads the first trick. Players must follow suit if possible; otherwise play any card.
  2. Highest trump wins if any trumps played; otherwise highest of led suit wins.
  3. FIRST HALF: Play continues until one team wins their 7th trick — they have "cut the court."
  4. SECOND HALF: Now the opposing team tries to win 7 CONSECUTIVE tricks. The court-cutting team tries to prevent this.
  5. If the court-cutting team wins all 13 tricks (a "bavney"), they score double.

📖 Guia detalhado

Setting up the game

  • Court Piece, also called Rung, is a four-player partnership game with partners sitting opposite each other.
  • It uses the full 52-card deck and every card is dealt, giving each player thirteen in total.
  • The deal is split. Five cards go to each player first, and the rest follow only after trump has been named.
  • That split is what makes the trump call a genuine decision rather than a formality.

Naming trump

  • The trump caller looks at their first five cards only and names the trump suit, the rang, from those.
  • You are committing on incomplete information — eight of your thirteen cards are still unseen.
  • Call your longest and strongest suit among the five rather than simply your highest card.
  • Once trump is named, the remaining cards are dealt and the hand begins.

Playing tricks

  • The player to the caller's side leads, and you must follow the suit led if you are able.
  • If you are void in the led suit you may play anything, including a trump.
  • The highest trump in the trick wins it; with no trump played, the highest card of the led suit takes it.
  • The winner of each trick leads the next, so control of the lead passes with the cards.

Winning

  • The target is seven tricks — the first partnership to reach that number claims the hand.
  • Because seven of thirteen is a simple majority, the hand often turns on a single contested trick in the middle.
  • Counting trumps as they fall matters enormously; knowing the last trump has gone turns your side suits into winners.
  • Taking all thirteen tricks is the most emphatic result available and is worth playing for when your hand supports it.

📊 Pontuação de Court Piece

Court Piece: winning team scores 1 point per round. 7 consecutive tricks by opponents = "Court" lost, opponents score. Bavney (all 13 tricks): scoring team gets 2 points. First to 5 points wins the game (can vary by agreement).
