Gin Rummy
Knock before they do.
Gin Rummy is a beloved two-player rummy variant known for its tense knock-or-gin decisions. Draw, discard, build melds — then knock when your unmatched cards total 10 or fewer.
🎯 Objective
Reach 100 points first by reducing deadwood to 10 or fewer to knock, or to 0 for Gin.
🃏 Setup
- Use a standard 52-card deck. Aces are low. Deal 10 cards each.
- Flip one card face-up (discard pile start); rest is the stock.
- Non-dealer may take the face-up card or decline; if both decline, non-dealer draws from stock.
▶ How to Play
- On your turn, draw from stock or top of discard. Then discard one card.
- A meld is a set (3–4 same rank) or run (3+ consecutive same suit).
- Knock by discarding face-down when your unmatched cards total ≤ 10.
- After a knock, reveal hands. Opponent may lay off cards onto your melds.
- Gin: knock with 0 deadwood — opponent cannot lay off.
📊 Scoring
Knocker wins difference in deadwood; undercut: opponent wins difference +25 bonus. Gin: 25 bonus + opponent's full deadwood. First to 100 wins; add 25 pts per hand won + 100 game bonus.
