Chinchón
Form your runs and sets — Chinchón closes the round instantly.
Chinchón is a beloved Spanish/Argentinian rummy variant played with a 40-card Spanish deck. Build sets and runs to minimise deadwood — or complete all 7 cards of the same suit (Chinchón) to instantly win the round.
🎯 Objective
Score the fewest penalty points. A player reaching 100 points is eliminated; last standing wins.
🃏 Setup
- Uses a 40-card Spanish deck (remove 8s, 9s, 10s from a standard 52-card deck). Aces are low (1 pt).
- Deal 7 cards each. Flip one card face-up for the discard pile.
▶ How to Play
- On your turn, draw one card from the stock or the discard pile.
- Discard one card face-up.
- A set is 3–4 cards of the same rank (different suits). A run is 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit.
- Knock (close the round): place your discard face-down when your unmatched cards' total is low enough (typically ≤ 5 pts).
- Chinchón: knock when your entire hand forms one 7-card run of the same suit — all other players score all their deadwood; you score nothing (or receive a bonus).
- After a knock all players reveal hands and score their deadwood.
📊 Scoring
Deadwood = pip value of unmatched cards (A=1, J=10, Q=10, K=10). Chinchón = 0 points (or −10 in some variants). Players eliminated at 100 cumulative points. Last player standing wins.
